A Square Patch of Earth!
I was contacted by a lady who was about to move into a lovely newly built home in Bridlington. She had asked that the contractors leave the back garden unturfed as she wanted to have her garden designed and had a specific idea of what she wanted. I went to see the plot and it was literally a square piece of earth with a basic square of paving and a path to the door! Initially the fences were bare wood but the customer got to work and painted these black to fit with the ideal image of her future garden.
The Design
As I mentioned, the customer had a good idea of what she wanted from her garden but she needed help to visualise this and communicate it to a landscaper so this is where I came in. We discussed her wishes to have some raised beds around the side of the space and a central area which would comprise of a mixture of her favourite outdoor tiles and also some larger sleek modern pavers. Planting would feature heavily in the garden as the customer had her favourite plants and loved colour but also wanted some evergreen structure in place. I introduced some lovely structural Buxus sempervirens balls into spaces in the paving to create some separation from the path and the seating area. I modelled the design using SketchUp Pro and Layout software so that the customer could see what her garden would look like when completed. These plans would also act as instructions for construction of the garden to the landscapers.
Work Gets Underway
Once the design was complete I passed this onto a local landscaper. Bridlington based Jon Richardson & his team (J. Richardson Building & Landscapes) did a fantastic job of clearing the site, marking out the shaping, laying the patio tiles and large pavers and constructing the wooden sleeper beds.
Hard Landscaping Complete
The hard landscaping was finally completed and looked great! The small outdoor tiles matched really well with the large sleek grey pavers and the black sleeper beds and fences giving the garden a very modern and contemporary look. The evergreen box balls gave the garden a pop of colour and structure initially but much more was about to come when the planting arrived.
The Completed Garden
Being a keen gardener and lover of plants, the customer wished to source and plant up the garden herself but she has kindly sent me these stunning pictures of the completed space looking wonderful!
